Kalecik Karası

Kalecik Karası is a prominent red grape variety native to lands of Anatolia, primarily grown in the Kalecik district near Ankara. Known for its thin skin and deep ruby color, it produces elegant, medium-bodied wines with balanced acidity and soft tannins. Much like Gamay and Pinot Noir, Kalecik Karası is known for its delicate fruit profile. The wines often feature aromas of red berries, cherries, and floral notes, with subtle hints of spice and chocolate. Kalecik Karası thrives in the region’s continental climate and well-drained soils, making it one of Turkiye’s most prized indigenous grape varieties.

Öküzgözü

Öküzgözü is one of Turkiye’s most renowned indigenous red grape varieties, primarily grown in the Elazığ and Malatya regions of Eastern Anatolia. The name, meaning “ox eye” in Turkish, refers to its large, round berries. It produces medium to full-bodied wines with bright acidity and soft tannins, making them fresh and easy to drink. Öküzgözü wines typically showcase vibrant red fruit aromas such as cherry, raspberry, and pomegranate, along with floral and spicy notes. Thanks to its balance and versatility, it is often blended with Boğazkere to create well-structured, age-worthy wines.

Narince

Narince is a prestigious white grape variety native to Turkey, primarily grown in the Tokat region of Anatolia. Its name, meaning “delicate” in Turkish, reflects its elegant character. Narince wines are typically medium-bodied with balanced acidity and a rich aromatic profile featuring citrus, green apple, pear, and floral notes, often complemented by subtle nutty and mineral undertones. The grape is well-suited for both fresh, unoaked styles and barrel-aged versions, which develop more complexity and texture. Narince is considered one of Turkey’s finest white wine grapes, valued for its aging potential and versatility.

Karasakız

Primarily found in northwestern Turkiye, particularly around Çanakkale, Karasakız is a softer, more approachable grape variety. It produces wines with a medium body, bright acidity, and silky tannins, making it an excellent choice for those who enjoy elegant and balanced reds. The flavor profile leans towards red berries, cherries, and subtle floral notes, sometimes with a hint of spice. Karasakız is often compared to Pinot Noir for its finesse and drinkability, making it a versatile and food-friendly option.

Boğazkere

One of Turkiye’s most bold and structured grape varieties, Boğazkere originates from southeastern Anatolia, particularly around Diyarbakır. Its name translates to “throat burner”, a nod to its firm tannins and intense character. Wines made from Boğazkere are full-bodied with deep blackberry, black cherry, and plum flavors, complemented by spicy, smoky, and earthyundertones. Known for its aging potential, it develops greater complexity over time, making it a favorite for those who enjoy rich, powerful reds.
